Swedes say the darndest things
Last night there was yet another event for the Norsk Norweigan Drinking Club. I swear these events get more and more bizarre, last night when we got to the bar they gave us all straw cowboy hats, zorro masks and glow sticks..dont' ask me what for but everyone was wearing them..I skipped on my glow stick and mask but I did have my hat on..so when I describe to you the following conversation you have to picture it taking place in a bar full of people with cowboy hats and zorro masks. I was there with my roommate Kim who I love to death but isn't always the brightest creature you've ever met. So as we're walking trough the crowd this guy stops her and says "Hi Kim" and Kim looks at him all confused clearly she can't remember where they met, but she says oh" Hi how have you been?" and most normal people at this point would keep on walking but not Kim she stops and says "I'm sorry I'm not sure where it is I met you" and he says, "I met you last weekend when you were with your boyfriend" (Mind you Kim doesn't have a boyfriend so at this point her eyes get kinda big and she's really super confused) and she says "Oh who was it you saw me with?" (Once again she should have just kept on walking) and he says "Yorg" (who's some other Swedish guy that Kim hangs out with sometimes) then she goes onto explain unnecessarily and in slow english (she's american but is talking to a swede so it was necessary) " Yorg and me we are not together like that there is just not lots of chemistry you know passion and I feel like I need time on my own and I like Yorg but I just don't feel like lots of sparks b/c of his quiet personality..etc" and she goes on and on about why they aren't together to this poor swede who #1 is obviously Yorg's friend and #2 was probably like I just wanted to say hi...but then the Swede says, "oh yes I know this problem I made out with a girl yesterday and today I must call her and tell her it is over."

Reading Rainbow
So since I basically have no material possesions and live in my bare room with just my clothes I've been reading alot..which is actually a good thing. I joined the local library here and have been going through a couple of books a week (not counting all the reading I have to do for class). The latest book I've been reading is The Opposite of Fate by Amy Tan (which is basically like her autobiography..but kinda more than that) anyways I would highly recommend it..here's one of my fav quotes from it..which is really from her mother, she says her mother used fear to keep them from doing things they weren't supposed to and the following is a fine example:
"Don't ever let boy kiss you, you do, you can't stop. Then you have baby. You put baby in garbage can. Police find you, put you in jail, then you life over, better just kill yourself."
Also I'd like to shout out the following public service warning to:
LIANG LULU
LIM YANG LENG
You two have been put in my group for my Int'l Logisitics class and we have to do a presentation and you 2 aren't ever in class..the professor says if you 2 don't pop up at some point I'll just have to do the project myself..this does NOT make me happy..so Lulu and Leng..get with program dammit I don't want to have to track you down and yell at you and believe me I have nothing better to do..except perhaps do a 3 person project by myself..so I'm warning you Lulu and Leng get ahold of yourselves..get it together and get your ass to class!!!!

If I could live my life all over, I still couldn't stay sober
That paraphrases Robert Earl Keen but well it's true..I have kind of a do-over of college life at the moment..it's like I can start all over and be an academic star this time around. But well lets be honest I'm still tempted to go out and have a good time as opposed to keeping my nose in the books all the time. Although this time there are a few things I've set out to do differently:
1. I plan to actually read the chapters before class, I think this will help lots. 2. I plan to start assignments sometime before the day they are due. 3. I plan to be organized. 4. I plan to not go to class hungover. All of these are easier said than done but with week 2 behind me I have so far succeeded in those tasks..now if I can only keep it up for 11 more weeks I'll be golden. Although I was hungover in one class last week but since I had done the reading well in advance I had some idea what was going on..so I think if I do the first 3 then that partially compensates for a failure on #4. Also the university I go to is down the street from Queensland Parliment and the courthouses so there are always lots of men and women walking around in powdered wigs..yep they still wear those here for court and such...it's super bizarre and always throws me off. I especially like that most of them carry wigboxes around with them.

The Norweigan Student Club
So last night I became a member of the Norweigan Students Club or Norsk as they call it. I came home from class yesterday and my German roommate Jann (who has a nose for sniffing out all things related to alcohol and women) asked me if I wanted to come with him to the Norwegian Students Club pub crawl b/c he had joined as a member. He then informed me that it's the best club on campus and they are known for their pub crawls every couple of weeks so I thought I'd check it out. We get to the first bar and it's absolutely packed..for $8 you get your Norwegian Students Club card, one free drink at every bar on the pub crawl (there were 5 we made it to) and membership for the rest of the year. Then they gave us a necklace that had a card attached to it where we wrote our name really big and it also had all the pubs listed and what group you were in (the Norwegians were very organized about the drinking I tell you), anyways there were so many people that we had groups A-F and would rotate pubs all ending up at the same club at the end. I lost my group after there first pub and so after that just started following anyone that blew the whistle and held up a letter. I met loads of norwegians and swedes, heard lots of talking that sounded like fluten flagen and had loads of beer as well. It was a really fun night..I'll definetly be hanging with the norwegians again.
